Vocal Warm Up: Diaphragmatic Breathing

Diaphragmatic breathing is essential for chorus members, By learning and mastering diaphragmatic breathing, you’ll be able to control the flow of air better, and you’ll also get much deeper breaths. To make things even better, diaphragmatic breathing has been shown as an effective way to reduce anxiety.

Here are some basic steps on how to breathe diaphragmatically:
To breathe diaphragmatically, also known as “belly breathing,”
1. Find a comfortable position.
2. Place one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest.
3. Then inhale slowly through your nose, focusing on expanding your abdomen while keeping your chest relatively still.
4. As you exhale slowly through your mouth, your stomach should contract and flatten, essentially “pushing” the air out.
